Back from Hong Kong

Drag Overdose in Full swing
Drag Overdose @BEAT in full swing

So, last Saturday saw my first ever DJ gig in Asia, at Volume: BEAT in Hong Kong. From 23:00 till 03:00, the place was packed and the crowd got down to some fab dance and pop tunes from the last 4 decades, with a healthy dose of Matt Pop mixes thrown in. A few exclusives, too, including the not-yet-released I Feel Like Dancing by RuPaul and LaToya Jackson, It’s My Life by Allan Jay (the Matt Pop Club Mix seemed to go down very well) and a brandnew, made-especially for the occasion mash-up of Blurred Lines with a certain 80’s alternative electro anthem…The performances by resident drag diva La Chiquitta and her “gal”pals ranged from hilarious to downright dirty, but somehow they managed to always stay the right side of classy. But only just, as some of the photos and videos now circulating will testify. Thank you to everyone who came and said hi, and thank you to the staff at BEAT for a warm welcome and the delicious Amaretto Sour. Sorry to those of you coming to me with requests I couldn’t play (Katy Perry or “some R&B”), but I am sure you had a great time anyway 🙂 And I have to say: Hong Kong is quite a city. I may just be back there before too long.
